I was given a copy of this book to read through a giveaway. This isn’t normally a book I would have purchased, nor had I heard of before getting a copy of this book. I loved reading this book though, there was a lot of good material in this book, but it also reaffirmed to me, that I had already chosen the right path – to have my own business.
Yes, you can spend 30-50 years working for someone else and for the most part being miserable there. Or you can start your own business and do whatever you want, have time freedom, location freedom and money freedom. It may take some time of setting everything up to get all this freedom, but you don’t have any of these freedoms working for someone else. Do you? You have a limited number of vacation and sick days when you work for someone else. You have to let someone else know when you are taking a sick day to take care of your kid working for someone else. With your own business, you don’t have anyone else to answer to, but yourself. And with your own business, you don’t have to work 30-50 years if you don’t want to.
My biggest takeaways from this book
1: The freedoms you have in your life are dependent on you and your decisions to choose the path you want in your life. If you continue to listen to everyone else around you and take the path most traveled, you most likely won’t be happy when you reach the end of the road, just like all those before you. It’s time to carve out your own path and take a road that hasn’t been traveled as much before. Entrepreneurship is being taken a lot more seriously these days and more people are starting their own businesses because working for someone else doesn’t necessarily make them happy anymore and they are realizing how much the happiness factor plays out in their lives.
2: It’s not easy to start your own business (most of us entrepreneurs know this already!), but if you have the discipline and drive to do it, you can totally do it.
3: With your own business, your income is not limited and you can make many, many years worth of income in just one year from your own business, thereby being able to create a retirement account much faster and being able to retire much earlier. You don’t have to spend 30-50 years saving your money to retire with $1 million dollars and not be able to enjoy life then. You can enjoy life now and retire with several million dollars in about 7-10 years if you are disciplined and driven to do this for you and your family.
What I didn’t like about this book
The author didn’t explain his process in much detail or even really explain what his business is. When you put in writing ways to help people and use yourself as a case study, put more explanations about what you did and what your business is. It will make you seem more real and relatable.
Would I recommend this book to others? I would recommend this book to those who are still working a 9-5 job and just aren’t happy with their lives. If you have already started on the entrepreneurship journey, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this book to you. You are already on the path that you want to be on to become a millionaire and retire rich. This book isn’t a how-to, it just explains the differences and what the author did to retire in his 30s. But I won’t stop you from checking out this book if you are interested 🙂
